There seems to be a misconception that Pilates is a “girlie” thing and “a bit like ballet.”
Both of these thoughts are completely wrong. Joseph Pilates (he was a real person) specifically designed his exercise method – originally called Contrology – to be a form of exercise for MEN!
It wasn’t until he moved to New York City and set up his studio after the end of the Second World War that actors and dancers started to attend his classes.
So naturally this is why men think of Pilates as a “girlie” workout. The truth of the matter is that Joseph Pilates designed Contrology to develop the perfect human physique.
Joseph Pilates was a gymnast, a body builder and earned a living as a professional boxer. He believed that modern lifestyle, bad posture and inefficient breathing lay at the roots of poor health.
Pilates will strengthen your core, improve your overall strength by working often ignore muscles, improve flexibility and make you more aware of your body and how it moves.

Over the years I’ve often been asked if I teach Men Only Pilates Classes. I’ve listened to the requests and launch a new Men Only Class in January.
The class will run at 7.15pm on Wednesday evenings at Bridge of Allan Sports Club. I’m really looking forward to the new dynamic that a male only class will bring.
